That's interesting, in the UK petrol pumps are green, and diesel pumps are black.

I hate you.

180 miles in my most fuel efficient ride is still like 7 gallons. I don't even want to talk about the V12....

We're talking highway miles, right?

About 120 is highway miles the rest is town. It gets slightly worse mileage on the highway actually, it's at 3000 revs at 80mph because the gearing is a bit shitty.

I do have to make sacrifices for the good mileage, I only have 70hp at my disposal for example.

I just picked the first stock photo on GIS, wasn't paying attention to whether it was a diesel pump or not.

If I could DD a little car like that, I'd love it honestly.

Save my pennies for the weekend.

I have done 180 miles after filling up yesterday and... I've used about 10-10.5 gallons. :(

Different gallons though if you're in the US - 4.545 litres rather than the 3.8 to an American gallon. Still very economical though.

Top tip: avoid the green pump if you have a diesel. It's very expensive!

Yeah I'm looking into getting a fun car when I graduate next year and just use the Panda for commuting. The Panda is a godsend for while I'm a broke student, especially with the awful fuel prices here, those just over 3 gallons of diesel cost me around £20.

I think US gallons still come out to the ballpark of 45+MPG.

My wagon gets about half that regularly. The mercedes gets about half that cruising on the highway, and a fraction of that when I'm having some fun.

Kinja'd!!! Twingo Tamer - About to descend into project car hell. > Nibby
10/11/2014 at 15:54

Kinja'd!!!0

I literally couldn't afford that. UK fuel prices+student means anything that gets less than 40mpg is pretty much useless to me. I only do about 300-400 miles a month and even that makes a dent in my monies...

Well, you've got a handful of cars that I'd love to be able to drive at least once over there.

The original Smart Roadster? I'd love to see how that thing does. More things also have manual over there, and your used car market is a lot more forgiving. Just look at what Top Gear manages to find, for really cheap. All things considered, those cars could very easily be brought back to full function without too much work, in most cases.

Over here, the used car market is really bad. Gas might be a little cheaper, but we also have a considerably poorer mass transit system, along with much farther distances between point A and point B.

It takes what, maybe a full day to go from end to end of the UK? After a full days drive, you're maybe a couple states over from where you started. A non-stop drive across the country, if you obey speed limits, it's 3-4 days.

I wouldn't want to just up and re-locate, but I'm a bit jealous of what some other places have to offer.

This may be the time to remember that my father has a FoD (a Focus diesel, as opposed to a FoST) and I borrowed it during the summer with this outcome (in Imperial mpg)

I like the older smarts actually, I was looking around car dealers with a friend today and an old forfour caught my eye. They're just neat looking to me, although I don't like the fortwo. My car wasnt all that cheap because Pandas hold their value well but you can get a roadworthy car for around £600 or one close to roadworthy for a lot less. Rust is an issue though with our cars. Mine had a few small spots of rust when I got it.

Public transport is pretty reasonable, I went from the North to London for Wimbledon (tennis tournament) on a nice train for £30 return. Even in my car fuel alone would be more than that. My grandad used to drive for a living and he drove to Scotland, down south to London and then back home in the North in about 9 hours, he does drive a fair bit over the limit on motorways though. Hell you can do 80-85mph (limit is 70) anywhere there isnt a speed camera and police dont really care.

I get 48mpg on my Jetta TDI, unfortunately diesel cost about the same as Supreme gas in the U.S.

I did get 61.9 MPG once.

Not bad. If I hadn't gone to a gravel car park in the middle of nowhere for hooning today I probably would've used even less.

I enjoy having my instantaneous consumption on the screen since I'm a sad geeky person and I love everytime it passes 140mpg when coasting.

No.

I went out for a spirited drive with a girl last evening. My range went from 275mi to 190mi in a 16 mile loop on some backroads.

I burned 85mi of gas in 16mi. so yeah

My car on the most spirited of drives (constantly at full revs) still usually pulls 30mpg,

thats like 3 times the price of gasoline here in Idaho, (I'm guessing £20 is around $30 USD) . I would blame obama for the gas prices (even though he's not a UK citizen)

There's the difference between a tiny diesel with no power and a more average sized car. My car is so small that when I have the seat adjusted for me (only about 5-10) the seat is pretty much touching the back seat.

I was confused at first cause I didn't notice the text. I was about to say that was ridiculous as my Jeep would do over 300 miles before even turning on the low fuel light... course it takes the better part of the 23 gallon tank to do that... [facepalm] 180 miles would easily be 10 gallons.

My Lada has a little tank, so it'll only do 190 miles. I know that cause that's when it coughed and died... it's a 1.7L that only does 19mpg. The 11 gallon tank is not appreciated.
